Since 2013, On-Ramps to Careers has empowered talented and motivated yet underserved youth in Washington, DC to join the tech workforce by providing over 900 technology internships.

 

This summer, over 200 young people will be working with over 30 On-Ramps technology employers. The Internship Celebration is when we recognize the impact that our students have made as well as celebrate the community of supporters who contribute to our work. Chike Aguh

Chief Innovation Officer at the United States Department of Labor

Chike Aguh serves dual roles at the US Dept. of Labor as the Chief Innovation Officer and the Senior Advisor for Delivery, where he leads efforts to use innovative technologies, partnerships and practices to accelerate the Department’s mission of delivering a future of work that includes and dignifies every American.  Previously, Chike was the inaugural Head of Economic Mobility Pathways at the Education Design Lab where he launched the Community College Growth Engine Fund, an innovative multimillion dollar effort turning community colleges into bridges to careers in high growth fields for thousands. He has been a Technology and Human Rights Fellow at the Harvard Carr Center for Human Rights Policy where he focused on the future of work and racial equity, Venture Partner at Maryland-based New Markets Venture Partners where he focused on workforce technologies, member of the Council on Foreign Relations’ Future of Work Taskforce, Lecturer at Columbia University and guest speaker at the University of Maryland School of Public Policy. Additionally, he has served as an advisory board member for Teach For America-DC Region, board member for Baltimore’s Code in the Schools; past Advisory Board Chair of the Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund; and former appointee of the Prince George’s County Executive to the County’s Commission on Fathers, Men and Boys.

 

Chike holds degrees from Tufts University (B.A.), Harvard Graduate School of Education (Ed.M), Harvard Kennedy School of Government (MPA), and University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School (MBA).

Kumar Garg

Senior Managing Director and Head of Partnerships at Schmidt Futures

Kumar Garg is Senior Managing Director and Head of Partnerships at Schmidt Futures. In this role, Kumar works to help all major Schmidt Futures programs find successful leverage, as well as helping to run the Technology and Society portfolio.

 

He previously helped shape science and technology policy for the Obama Administration for nearly eight years, serving in a variety of roles in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). Garg led the Obama Administration’s efforts to bolster science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education, including the Educate to Innovate campaign, with more than $1 billion in in-kind and philanthropic investment; development of major State of the Union initiatives to train 100,000 excellent STEM teachers and bring computer science to all K–12 students; and creation of iconic events such as the White House Science Fair.
